Our  exhibition 'It's a Stitch Up!' took place at Bishopthorpe Palace from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd June 2003.

The main exhibition featured work by over 60 of our branch members, including pieces from dayschools organised by the branch, as well as independent work.

There was a special display of Goldwork and other ecclesiastical textiles including an exhibition of works by Tracy Franklin - freelance embroiderer and teacher, formerly of the Royal School of Needlework.

There was a large display of doll's houses and dolls, both antique and modern, of all shapes and sizes!

The exhibition competition theme for members was Proverbial Pillows. A pillow, pin cushion, cushion or other small stuffed object made to represent a well known catchphrase, saying or proverb. For those who puzzled over them, here are the answers:

1. Many hands make light work

2. Like water off a duck's back

3. Happy the bride the sun shines on

4. A rolling stone gathers no moss

5. Every cloud has a silver lining

6. An elephant never forgets

7. Still waters run deep

8. You can't burn the candle at both ends

9. (not entered)

10. If at first you don't succeed try, try again

11. Worse things happen at sea

12. Big fish eat little fish

13. There's safety in numbers

14. A stitch in time saves nine

15. He who sups with the devil should have a long spoon

16. Variety is the spice of life

17. You can't have your cake and eat it

18. Cold comfort

19. Storm in a teacup

20. Make a clean breast of it

21. Draw a line under it

22. Too many cooks spoil the broth

23. Curiosity killed the cat

Our next exhibition will be in June 2006!
